Red Bull - Immersive Wall.
Experience record breaking waves in an immersive and interactive way
Our team recently had the pleasure of working on a project for Red Bull called “Surfing The Beast”. Together with a partner immersive media agency we worked on creating an immersive video and interactive game installation about surfing record-breaking waves in Nazareth, Portugal.
We were actively involved in the conception of the sound system, sighting and utilizing all of the equipment that was available to us. Additionally, we worked closely with the technician responsible for installing the system so that it could reach its full potential.
In the process we created sound design to tell the story of the surfers who risk their lives on the hunt for the next world record. It was important to the customer that the audience gets to experience the danger and urgency when the wave breaks and the surfers are underwater and have to be found within 15 seconds.
Our job also included designing UI sounds for the game and recording narratives.
At our studio we matched our 3D sound system to the one installed at Red Bull to make the audience's experience as immersive as possible.
Our approach was complete and comprehensive and leveraged our collective talents to realize Red Bull’s vision.
Our Work.
Conception.
We collaborated with the location’s technical team to plan and create an immersive sound system using the available equipment.
Despite limitations, we were able to design a great experience by utilizing our expertise in spatial audio technology - ensuring visitors can experience Red Bulls "Immersive Wall" to its fullest.
Sound Design.
Our team came up with a unique sound design by creating original sound that took inspiration from the distinctive soundscape of the original location.
By using natural surf and wave sounds along with other complementary audio elements, we were able to craft an experience that was both realistic and when needed larger than life.
Voice Overs.
We assisted in writing the final script for the narrative and instructional Voice Overs, scouted and recorded a native speaker to create convincing storytelling for the "Immersive Wall". This added depth to the experience and gave the visitors clear instructions what to do. That ensured that visitors are fully immersed into an engaging surfing adventure!
3D Audio Mix.
We exported and mixed single tracks of the sound design in Dolby Atmos. We recreated the location-specific sound system at our studio - ensuring that we could replicate and perfect the desired effect.
As a highlight of the "Immersive Wall", a gigantic wave was to roll acoustically through the room.
